House system

At St John’s we have four colour houses, all the children belong to one of the house teams; red, yellow, blue and green and siblings are in the same house. The children earn house points for good work and behaviour that are totalled to give a winning house each term. The winners have a house reward that might take the form of a games session or extra disco time.

The house captains are drawn from Year 6 and are voted for by the pupils in their house. We have a boy and girl house captain who are nominated termly. They are expected to be excellent role models to the children in school. Their duties include leading house meetings, handing out team point certificates in celebration assembly and supporting events across the school, particularly with the younger children.

The house system is a positive way of encouraging friendly competitions whilst the captain roles provide pupils with the opportunities to be young leaders and take responsibility for important tasks, all contributing to their wider learning experience.
