32.5 hours per week, 41 weeks per year (including 3 weeks in holidays and 5 days leave in term time)

Salary PS9: £29,624 to £32,779 FTE

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitable candidate looking for significant responsibility and job variation in a demanding role.  

The successful candidate will support the strategic direction of the school in respects of planning, developing and monitoring finance, personnel, premises catering and IT. However, in working at school, any situation can arise at any time which will require team work, leadership, creative thinking and a ‘hands on’ approach!

Clerk to Governing Body

150 hours per year

Salary PS6: £2,308 to £2,544 per annum

The Governors of St. John's C of E Primary School invite applications for a Clerk.  The Governing Body is effective and contributes fully to the school's success.  The Clerk will be accountable to the Governing Body, working effectively with them, the Chair of Governors and the Head Teacher.

The Clerk's main role is to provide professional clerking services to the Governing Body and its main committees, working in the school and remotely from home.

You will:

  • be able to take accurate minutes from your own notes to then produce professionally presented and detailed minutes for distribution
  • collate and distribute agendas and associated paperwork in advance of meetings
  • be available to take minutes at 15-20 meetings per year. Meetings normally take place in the evenings and late afternoons, during term time
  • provide procedural and legal advice and guidance
  • manage the schedule of requirements and Governor’s annual plan
  • attend relevant training events


  • good listening, oral, literacy and computer skills
  • good organiser of time and working to deadlines
  • tactful, reliable person who will deal with matters confidentially
  • ability to take feedback and develop and work under guidance and own initiative
  • a good sense of humour with an interest in education

A professional background and/or clerking experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

Cover Staff

We are keen to build up a bank of people who can provide cover when the school faces staff shortages due to sickness and training.  We are particularly keen to build up a pool of staff to cover our Breakfast Club, After School Club and during lunch breaks.

The hours are as follows:

  • Breakfast Club: 7.05 a.m. – 9.00 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11.50 a.m. – 1.05 p.m.
  • After School Club: 2.45 p.m. to 6.15p.m.

We offer a competitive salary with a full induction to ensure that all our staff, regardless of how many hours they work, are all given the same excellent training.
